2017 Buying Advice from Freestyll "The iPad 2 has only just been unsupported at the end of 2016 from the most recent apple iOS updates, but it is still the best value on the market, with enough power and a clear enough screen to make day-to-day tasks and consuming media easy. Buy if you want the best value iPad for day-to-day tasks like internet browsing and email."
Following Apple's monopolisation of the tablet market with the original iPad, big things were expected of the iPad 2 and it more than delivered.
With a thinner, lighter, more durable exterior, which included front and rear facing cameras it made it a much more attractive and portable device. Add to that that it's twice the speed and has up to nine times better graphics performance than its predecessor and it more than lives up to expectations.
Faster and more responsive
The iPad 2 is more responsive and runs noticeably faster than the original iPad both in general use and gaming. Thanks to its upgraded dual-core 1GHz (Cortex-A9) Apple A5 processor, 512MB RAM and dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphic processor, the processing speed has been doubled and the graphics processing runs at up to nine times faster than its predecessor.
Integrated FaceTime camera
Perhaps the most noticeable upgrade on the iPad 2 in the addition of both front and rear facing cameras, allowing you to capture those family moments direct to your iPad or chat to a friend face-to-face from across the world via FaceTime. The rear-facing 0.7 MP camera has a 5x digital zoom and can shoot a sharp 720p HD video at 30 frame/s, while the front-facing 0.3 MP FaceTime camera shoots VGA-quality video at the same frame rate.
Slimmer, lighter, stronger
The iPad 2 is drastically slimmer (8.8mm) and lighter (607g), yet also stronger than its predecessor; it's even thinner than the flagship iPhone at its time of release. Thinner glass technology allowed for the elimination of the stamped sheet metal framed screen making it not only look, but feel a completely different device from the 1st generation iPad, with its single sheet aluminium slotting into that familiar 9.7" scratch resistant liquid crystal 9.7" touchscreen perfectly.
9.7" touchscreen display
The iPad 2 keeps the hugely praised scratch resistant liquid crystal, finger-print proof, 9.7" (1024x768-pixel) touchscreen display that delivers media consumption and web browsing with the clear ease seem on the previous model.
