How Can IT Departments Best Manage iCloud Lock?

Posted by Stewart McGrenary on

Here at freestyll.com we have now worked with several large IT departments, and the main pain point for managing multiple Apple devices is Activation lock AKA iCloud lock. Here are our suggestions for Managing iCloud issues in IT departments.First... the good news, new issues of iOS Devices should be managed by "Apple Configurator" as described in this link support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202804 - this will allow IT to centrally manage activation locks. Assuming you have already got your devices out "in the field" then read on...1) Advise all users that on return of devices, they must use the reset function within "settings -> General -> Reset All Content and Settings" This keeps data secure and will only proceed if the user frees their iCloud...

3 Reasons We're Not On Gadget Recycling Comparison Sites

Posted by Stewart McGrenary on

Its a common question among our customers who have found us from a word of mouth referral or google search as to why we are not on comparison websites. "I wish I had found you guys years ago!" While all leading comparison sites do a good job of signing up as many companies as they can, unfortunately they have their problems. Here's why our recycling sites ipad-recycle.co.uk and plunc.com (the 2 most trusted recycling sites in the UK, we like to boast!) are not on comparison websites. 1) They are not transparent about which companies operate commercial downgrading (the fancy way of saying they quote one price then drop considerably because of light wear and tear). The problem is almost...

Using an iPad Pro Instead of your Macbook

Posted by Stewart McGrenary on

On travelling on a flight with only hand luggage recently I realised I had the Apple hattrick taking up much of my space and weight in my small bag. Lucky it was a hot country we were heading too! An iPhone, a Macbook Air for work, and an iPad Air for inflight movies and "Suits." Surely Harvey Spectre would not travel this way! Microsoft have gone all guns blazing down the dual device route with the surface Surface- a tablet which runs full windows so you really don't need a laptop too. Microsoft have struggled in recent years and so when you're down you can take a risk or 2. Apple would be loathe to combine 2 revenue streams into 1...

Beware iCloud Unlock Scam Websites

Posted by Stewart McGrenary on

It would be a very useful tool in the Freestyll.com office but unfortunately there is no way to override Apple Activation Lock.A quick google search of "icloud unlock service" brings an array of adwords for professional looking websites offering exactly that. The problem with all these sites is that if you dig a bit deeper there are some serious red flags.1) No recognised payment gateways. Paypal, Sagepay or Braintree etc should be offered as credit card payment options on any legit website taking payments.2) "Reviews" that don't include links to external sites, or worse, a review site has been invented to create an external review reference. Real reviews should link to Trustpilot, Reviews.co.uk or another well recognised review site. A full reviews...

Is your iPad data secure to recycle after you've done a factory reset?

Posted by Iain Dawson on

You’re looking to trade your old iPad or iPhone, but you've read horror stories of how doing a factory reset may not completely wipe your information... but this is something you shouldn’t have to worry about. Although it isn’t technically impossible to recover data from an iOS device, the sheer difficulty and resources required to do so means that unless someone knows there is something specifically valuable to them, then it not worth the effort. The encryption that is found on Apple devices is so sophisticated that the chances of cracking it is so remote that even Apple wouldn’t suggest you take any further steps than using the ‘Erase all content and settings’ function. Let’s face it, if Apple’s ‘Erase all content and settings’ function was...
